Audio
Some of the most fun projects I’ve worked on have been in audio. Things I’ve learned:
1) Writing for audio requires sentence structure and vocabulary that leads with the ear, not with the eye. A good audio piece will also integrate environmental sound to add atmosphere and depth, but not detract from the message.
2) Sound design is an entirely different beast. I love working with sound to create mood and momentum, and have been lucky to work with amazingly talented musicians and sound designers. For more on them, check out my partners in crime.
The California Report
During a three month stint at KQED’s The California Report, a radio show providing statewide daily coverage of issues, trends, and public policy decisions affecting California, I reported and produced a story about the Thai Buddhist Temple in Berkeley.

AudioLuxe
I had so much fun conceptualizing, writing, and producing these spots to promote AudioLuxe, an audio production startup. We recorded and mixed them in a couple of hours, and they were ready to go.

Soundtrack
The following is an excerpt from Man with a Movie Camera, an experimental 1929 silent documentary film by Russian director Dziga Vertov. Our teacher gave us four minutes to score, which I did with samples courtesy of the free sound project, archive.org and disparition.net. Favorite part? Matching up drumline madness with a dancing movie camera.
