Enjoy Your New Life, Beloved Camera

This year and next, I’m living on a super-fixed income, being in graduate school at the New School in New York and all. Since I’m doing production work as part of my degree, I hemmed and hawed for six months before investing in a beautiful, $4,000 Canon EOS 5D Mark II DSLR camera that shoots in HD video, cleaning out my bank account but vastly expanding my capacities as a media maker. Bought the camera in April, used it on one school video project and loads of beautiful stills, and now, in July, it’s all over. Gone, stolen, off to the anonymous hypothetical fate that all stolen items are destined for.

Here’s a little retrospective of some of my favorite pics, in no particular order, to commemorate my loss. :(

  1. That’s really awful… When and where did that happen? Any chance your home insurance or visa would cover anything?
Unfortunately my financial situation is what it is right now, but if you launch a fundraiser, let me know. I’m really sorry for you!

  2. You are a kind kind soul, Charlotte! Hadn’t thought of raising funds, but I think I’ll just lay low for a while and maybe get a cheaper replacement in January. I’ll tell you how it happened next time I see you … online. Also want to hear how things have been going for you in Indy!

  3. These are all so beautiful. I can only imagine the guilt that moron who stole your camera must feel when s/he looks at the other photos and realizes, “Holy shit, I’ve stolen a camera from a great photographer. I’m a total asshole.”
