Journalistic Standards? Whatever
I went to the NYT homepage today, to see this image summing up the unrest in Pakistan. An honest picture, brutal and emotionally turbulent. Where were those images during the Iraq war? Where are they now? Why were they deigned too disturbing to the fragile American psyche to display? The answers are as repugnant as they are obvious.
The New York Times, as much as any other media source in this country, has so much to answer for in their role promoting the war and coddling Americans into the out of touch nation that we still are. We’re getting better, but it has so much more to do with the breaking down of communications barriers via the Internet than any widening of horizons accomplished by mainstream journalists in this country.
