Conflict Diamond Issues
I’ve been working on expanding the conflict diamond issues section on Brilliant Earth’s website. It’s finally up, you can take a look. This is really the heart of the public education section of the site that give the background on the problems of conflict diamonds and what the impacts are on communities around the world.
It’s particularly fascinating because of how global the market is: every continent has its own relationship to the diamond trade. That’s why a lot of the sections are laid out country by country. Africa still has the most problematic relationship to diamonds–tons of diamonds, tons of poverty-level jobs. No investment in the country. Violence and environmental pillaging.
I’m on to expanding the gold mining section, which has a massive environmental impact — if you don’t already know about the problems, you will be SHOCKED.
